J. Pinfold 1779

Sold

Painted on ivory in shades of sepia watercolour, this tiny pendant features a classical lady draped over an urn that is dedicated to ‘I. Pinfold / ob. 1 Nov. / 1779 AE72’.

Genealogical research reveals that a John Pinfold Esq. (the letter I was often used for J during the eighteenth century) was buried on 4 December 1779 at St Cyr’s in Stinchcombe, a small village in Gloucestershire.

The piece is set within a gilt metal (not tested) pendant and, apart from a scratch on the reverse side, is in good condition.
