The Yellow Sash

Circa 1780

Sold

Painted in sepia shades heightened with touches of red to heighten her face and lemon yellow on her dress, this young Georgian lady wears a fichu fill-in under her tiered neckline that is tied with a yellow bow to match her sash. Her voluminous curls casually fall over her shoulders.

The portrait is set in a gold and blue enamel navette-shaped brooch frame, the reverse glazed to show a lock of light brown hair laid on cream silk. There is a small chip to the blue enamel close to 12 o’clock but otherwise the piece is in fine condition.
