The Peaked Cap

Circa 1820

£155

This little boy with his toy whip is shown wearing a wide-shouldered dress with little boots and an over-sized peaked cap with a soft crown. The silhouette is painted on paper and is nicely gilded to highlight the costume details.

The silhouette is presented in a period Hogarth frame with a verre eglomise mount. The background paper has some light dust-soiling and there is slight loss to the border on one corner of the frame and two small areas of paint loss to the mount as shown. A charming piece.
