The Dowager Aunt

Circa 1810

Sold

Well, why wouldn’t you wear ALL your lace, your gold jewellery and your fanciest bonnet to sit for your portrait? What a real character this lady must have been.

Under magnification, there’s some craquelure and scratches to her black dress but there’s no flaking or paint loss. The portrait is set in a traditional papier-mâché frame with a brass surround, acorn hanger and convex glass.
