La Belle Enfant

Pierre Pasquier

Sold

Wearing a traditional white muslin dress with a blue ribbon sash and blue beads that match the colour of her eyes, this young girl gazes out pensively. The portrait is signed Pasquier and dated Octobre 1824. It is set within a black border in a circular ormolu frame inset on the reverse with a decorative piece of antique gold brocade.

Pasquier worked in France between 1810 and 1835. Lemberger describes his portraits as ‘technically equal [to] Augustin at his best’.
