Dog in Drag!

June 1848

This curious drawing features a dog dressed up as a fashionable lady in a fringed shawl and poke bonnet. It’s a bit of a talking point as whether it was drawn from life or from imagination!

Drawn in pencil, the portrait is indistinctly signed and dated June [18]48. It is housed in a cushioned bird’s eye maple veneer frame with a gilt slip. There are some light marks to the right hand side of the drawing and a small loss to the veneer on the bottom edge of the frame.
