Silhouette Slide

John Miers

£270

This 18th century jewellery piece features a black silhouette that is typical of Miers’ ability to achieve a detailed and recognisable profile in miniature without the use of gilt embellishment. All the details from the lady’s frilled neckline and the comb securing her curls to her tiny eyelash are distinctly visible.

Painted in watercolour on an ivory base, the silhouette is signed Miers under the bust-line and is housed in a gold slide setting that could be threaded with ribbon to make an eye-catching choker necklace. Apart from minor dust under the glass (only visible under magnification), the piece is in fine condition.
