Country Folk

Oozing character, this pair of portraits depict a benevolent-looking gentleman in a black coat and waistcoat and his wife wearing a striking straw bonnet trimmed with pale blue ribbon tied with a flourish under her chin. Her dark curls peep out from under her frilly indoor cap which she wears under her bonnet.

Watercolour on card, the portraits reside in the original stepped giltwood frames. The portraits have some fading to the flesh tones; the frames have losses to the gilding on the sides (not visible when hung).
