Feathered

Painted on buff card, this late 18th century silhouette depicts an elderly gentleman wearing a ‘physical’ wig, a style much-favoured by doctors and lawyers, under a distinctive three-cornered hat adorned at the back with a single feather. This style of hat was fashionable from the 1760s though it’s likely that this gentleman continued to wear the same hat for years if not decades!

Neatly painted and in clean condition, the silhouette is housed in its original turned fruitwood frame.
