Pekingese in Miniature
It’s not hard to see why this cute little pekingese was so adored by his owners that they commissioned this portrait as a lasting memento. Finely and sensitively painted around 1890-1920, the portrait is set in a gilt metal frame backed with green fabric and is contained within the original green leather travelling case. Inside the leather has a decorative tooled edge and is lined with blue velvet (showing some wear). The case originates from Walter Jones of Sloane Street in London and has an easel stand on the reverse to facilitate its display.
