Walking Attire

Inspired by a French fashion plate, this watercolour shows a well-dressed young Regency lady walking in a landscape. She is wearing a buff-coloured coat, known as a carrick, over a high-waisted dress with a gold and ruby necklace and a striking black velvet hat topped with ostrich feathers.
