The Toy Drum

With a toy drum to hold her child’s attention, this young Regency mother is seated on an upholstered chair before a draped window with her child on her lap. She wears a décolleté dress with a pale pink sash, a ruffled neckline and puffed sleeves with narrow undersleeves. The baby, probably a little boy, is similarly dressed all in white.

The portrait is in excellent condition and is set in a daguerreotype frame with a decorative gilt mount. All in all, this is a delightful and truly charming study.
