The Toy Dog

Circa 1825

Sold

This little blue-eyed child still has his baby curls and is shown wearing a wide-shouldered black dress with little puff sleeves that places the portrait around 1825-1830. Probably a little boy, he is shown holding an orange and white puppy that may be live but more likely to be either a toy. It has even been suggested that it might be a guinea pig!

The portrait is set in a circular gilt metal frame and is in fine condition though some of the claws on the back of the frame are missing.
