The Teal Dress

Oil on Copper

Sold

This mid-17th century Continental (most likely Spanish) portrait shows a young lady in an attractive wide-shouldered teal dress with a wide lace collar, a pink ribbon bow on her corsage. Her blonde hair is curled and secured at the back with a pearl-decorated net to match her pearl necklace.

Painted in oil on copper, the portrait is set in the original turned pearwood frame. The portrait is in fine condition but the copper surface has suffered a small ding to the edge at three o’clock; there is no loss to the paint. There is also a light diagonal ‘crease line’ running across from it – this though only becomes visible under a strong light.
