The Ruff Collar

Circa 1820

Sold

Looking solemn and studious, this young schoolboy shown in profile wears a dark skeleton suit studded with small brass buttons over a shirt with a ruff collar.

Painted in watercolour on card, the portrait resides in the original papier-mâché frame with flat glass, brass surround and emblems (rose, thistle and shamrock) hanger. The portrait is in fine condition; the frame has a surface chip on the bottom edge and the usual edge nibbles.
