The Pearl Tiara

Mid 19th Century

Sold

This decorative roundel shows a young lady in a pink dress, jet beads, and pearl hoop earrings. Her precariously arranged hair is decorated with a red and pearl studded tiara.

Painted on ivory and possibly Continental, the portrait is small enough to potentially hang in a dolls’ house. It has minor paint loss to the edge at 3 o’clock and what might be slight water damage to the top edge over her head – both these flaws are only visible under magnification. The portrait is set in a gilt metal mount. It lacks a hanging ring but a piece of ribbon could be added.
