The Abandoned Doll

Early 19th Century

Sold

Perhaps this little girl didn’t want to stand still to allow the artist to cut her profile or perhaps she just tired of her toy, but the sad fact is that she has tossed away her doll and left it lying on the grass. Nonetheless, with her golden ringlets and flounced dress she remains the picture of innocence!

The silhouette has been cut and lightly bronzed with a watercolour wash background. It resides in the original maple veneer frame with a narrow gilt slip. The silhouette has light age browning and is otherwise fine. The frame has very slight losses to the veneer on the extreme edge.
