Teenage Years

Oil on copper

Sold

Tucked inside a tooled leather case is a winsome portrait of a young girl in her early teens. With soulful grey eyes and a faint blush to her cheeks, she is wearing a royal blue cross-over gown and white underslip, her blonde hair undressed and hanging loose.

Painted on copper around 1700, the portrait has light surface scratches and small spots of in-painting mostly confined to the background area. It is recessed (without glass) within a later fleece-lined leather travelling case with tooled decoration to the front cover. The case has light wear to the back cover and around the clasp.
