Scottish Infantry Officer
Henry Jacob Burch
£1,500
Posing for his portrait before setting off on yet another campaign, this officer has an air of experience and composure. Wearing a red coat with lemon facings and a blue collar, the insignia on his cross belt appears to show St Andrew and so suggests he belongs to a Scottish fencible or militia regiment.
Painted around 1790, the portrait is set in a gilt metal frame that is enclosed on the reverse.
The son of an artist, Henry Jacob Burch (b.1763) exhibited at the Royal Academy having entered the RA Schools at the age of sixteen. He was a talented and highly successful miniaturist who painted with sensitivity.
