Rosy Cheeks

Nicolas François Dun

Sold

A captivating portrait of a little girl with cropped auburn hair and roses in her cheeks. She is wearing a white muslin dress with a draw-string waist, a frilled neckline and short narrow sleeves with buttoned cuffs. She has a single strand pearl necklace.

The portrait is set within a handsome blue enamel surround in a gilt-metal frame that is enclosed on the back.

Born into a French musical family in 1764, Dun took up painting and, having moved to Naples, become a miniature portraitist at the Naples court where he was assured of an aristocratic clientele.    His work is represented in the Wallace Collection, the Royal Collection and in The Louvre.
