Profile Pendant

John Miers (1758-1821)

Sold

John Miers’ studio situated on the Strand was the go-to place for silhouettes from the 1790s. Whilst most of the profiles were painted on plaster, he also did a lucrative trade in reduced size profiles on ivory for “rings, pins or bracelets at the same price”, that is 5s. each.

This gentleman is signed Miers under the bustline and dates to the early nineteenth century. Is is set in a gold pendant frame and is glazed on the back to reveal plaited brown hair. Both the frame and silhouette are in fine condition.
