Motherhood

This winsome double portrait shows a young mother seated before a red drape with her young child. Dressed in white, they both have coral bead necklaces, believed to ward off evil spirits, and gold earrings. The mother also has a pretty lace cap trimmed with a hint of red ribbon.

The portrait has some minor spots of paint loss at 10 o’clock but is otherwise fine. It is set in a gilt metal frame with a velvet backing.
