Little Drummer Boys

Circa 1800

Sold

Rather naive in style but nonetheless charming, these children are undoubtedly siblings and are probably all boys. They are dressed alike in simple white muslin dresses with short sleeves and high waistlines tied with ribbon, the youngest child with the addition of tiny buttons on the bodice.

The youngest child has a toy drum and is reaching out for the drumsticks which may have been confiscated to give the artist some peace and quiet as he/she worked! Sadly the children’s names have been lost to history.

The miniature is housed behind convex glass in a gilt metal frame with a velvet backing.
