Lady Attributed to Thomas Peat

Circa 1790

A striking and finely detailed portrait of a lady wearing a white dress with a rounded neckline worn with a handkerchief fill-in and a knotted chemisette. The sleeves are narrow and frilled just below the shoulder. Her long powdered hair is worn à la conseilleur and dressed with a fashionable bandeau.

The portrait is set in a gold frame that is glazed on the reverse to reveal strands of golden brown hair. Excellent condition.

Thomas Peat worked in London and the spa towns. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1791 and 1805.
