Seven Years Old
Jane Green was born in 1785 and was just seven years old when this silhouette was painted. Her hair is worn long with a fringe and is topped with a high-crowned cap with ribbons and a flourish at the back. The inscription on the reverse indicates that Jane sadly died prematurely in August 1802 when she would have been just seventeen years old.
The silhouette is painted on buff paper and is housed in the original brass-faced frame. It has a scratch to the paper bottom right but is otherwise in fine condition.
