Georgian Lady with Character

William Read

Sold

There’s an appealing honesty to this portrait for, although the sitter is not a beauty, she has character and a somewhat bemused smile! She has also put on her Sunday best dress with its narrow bodice and standing frilled neckline and has tamed her frizzy hair to let the curls fall over her shoulders.

The portrait is housed in the original gold bracelet frame and is in fine condition. The frame lacks the bracelet clasps.

William Read lived and worked in London during the last quarter of the eighteenth century and exhibited three miniatures at the Royal Academy.
