Gentleman by Thomas Le Hardy
Signed and dated 1796
Sold
A portrait by a lesser known, but none the less competent, artist, Le Hardy. It depicts a older gentleman in a wig with buckles (rolled curls). He is wearing a buttoned-up black coat over a white stock.
Watercolour on ivory signed and dated Le Hardy 1796. It is housed in a gold frame that is glazed on the reverse to reveal plaited hair. Fine condition.
Thomas Le Hardy (1777-1811) worked mostly in Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands and was most likely also born there. The Victoria & Albert Museum in London have two of his signed portrait miniatures in their collection.
