Frederick Buck (1765-1840)
This work was painted by Frederick Buck, a highly successful and prolific Irish miniaturist best known for his commissioned portraits of the many officers passing through the busy port of his home city, Cork, on their way to foreign campaigns. The officer’s coat is faced with yellow and decorated with silver braid and silver epaulettes, the shoulder belt with a regimental plate.
The portrait is in fine condition and is housed in the original gold frame with chased decoration around the side and foiled blue glass reverse with an aperture of plaited hair with the initials PAB (slightly slipped).
