Field Officer

English School

Sold

Painted around 1810, this officer looks well experienced. His heavily braided coat and double epaulettes suggest seniority and merit. His rugged features are particularly well modelled.

The portrait is set in the original gold frame that is glazed on the reverse to show a fabulous display of hairwork leaves with gold wire and seed pearls on opalescent glass with seed pearl initials – HBF – on a central shield-shaped blue glass plaque edged with gold wire and pearls. There is dust under the front glass and a couple of misplaced pearls reverse.
