Ermine Stole

Circa 1840

Sold

This aristocratic young lady is traditionally identified as Miss Turner and, although she is said to be related to the English artist J. M. W. Turner, there is no provenance or documentation to support a connection.

With her hair in short ringlets, she wears a white dress with a narrow waistline and wide shoulders and has an ermine stole with blue ribbon ties draped over her shoulder.

The portrait is in good condition and is set in a prettily-shaped gilt metal frame with ornate chasing.
