Emily Scott

Sold

Painted to mark her coming of age and probably also her marriage as she is wearing rings, this portrait portrays Constance King (née Brogar), aged 18, looking serene as she sits in a garden wearing a pale pink gown with a sapphire brooch and lacy wrap, her hair looped over her ears and braided. The watercolour is signed bottom right Emily Scott / 1841. It is in fine condition and is presented in a handsome rosewood frame with gilt slip.

Emily Scott was born in 1801 and worked as a portrait and landscape painter in the Brighton area from 1826 onwards.
