An attractive portrait of a young lady wearing a grey dress with a draped bodice and demi-gigot sleeves with a pale pink tippet fill-in. Round her neck she has a gold watch and seals on a long guard chain and her dark hair has been arranged in a plaited knot with ringlets framing her face.

The portrait is signed on the reverse of the painting and again on the backing board and dated 1829. It is housed n the original giltwood frame with decorative corners.

Charles Ford (1801-1870) ran a busy and popular studio in his native city of Bath. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1830; his work is well considered by collectors.
