Captain David Craig

August 18th 1827

Sold

Depicted in profile wearing civilian attire of a dark green coat and lemon waistcoat with a black stock, the sitter is named on the reverse of the frame as Captain David Craig of the 22nd Regiment. The red chair gives an eye-catching pop of colour.

The portrait is signed and dated on the reverse – August 18th 1827 / Robinson – and is set with an inner gilt slip in a traditional papier-mâché frame with a symbols (rose, thistle and shamrock) hanger. There are several listed miniaturists named Robinson and it is unclear which, if any, painted this profile.
