Armed with Flowers
Early 19th century
This charming little portrait was most likely painted by a relative of the child or a family friend and as such is stylistically a little naive. Wearing a simple white dress that stands out against the darkly painted background, the child is shown with an armful of colourful flowers.
The portrait is set in a traditional papier-mâché frame with an unusual floral hanger. The background may have some later in-painting but otherwise the portrait is in good condition.
