A Favourite Doll

Matching Dresses

Sold

The style of this girl’s dress with its wide sleeves and high waistline dates the silhouette to around 1825. Her dress is worn with ankle-length pantaloons, slipperettes and a beaded necklace. Her doll is dressed in the same style with cropped hair and a dress tied at the back with a ribbon bow and with similarly wide sleeves.

The silhouette is cut out and neatly gilded with a watercolour wash base. It is set in what appears to be the original bird’s eye maple frame with a gilt slip. Apart from a single spot to the left side, the silhouette is in fine condition.
